You write in the language you think in
They read it in theirs. Nobody switches, nobody guesses, and nothing is lost in the middle of a family group chat.
Messages that arrive translated
Text, in more than thirty languages. Each chat remembers the language you write in and the language you read in, so a group where four people speak four languages simply works. You can always see the original.
Voice notes, translated and spoken
Record in your language. The other person reads the transcript and hears it aloud in theirs. For the languages we have voices for, it is spoken; for the rest, it is written.
Speak in your own voice
Record a few samples and your translated voice notes can be spoken in a voice built from yours, instead of a stock one. It is optional, it is off until you enroll, and you can delete the samples at any time.
It learns how you talk
Correct a translation once and it stays corrected. Add the words that matter to you — names, places, the way your family says things — and they are kept out of the machine’s way.
How it works
Three steps, then you forget it is there
The translation is not a mode you switch on. It is how every chat behaves, from the first message.
- Say what you speak Choose the language you write in and the one you want to read. You can change either at any time, for one chat or for all of them.
- Write, record or post Send a message, a voice note, a photo or a Moment exactly as you would anywhere else. Nothing extra to press.
- They get it in theirs It arrives translated, with the original underneath. A voice note arrives as text and, where we have a voice, aloud.
The rest of the messenger
Calls, chats and moments
The things a messenger has to do, done properly.
Voice and video calls
One to one, over an encrypted connection that goes directly between the two phones whenever the network allows, and through our own relay when it does not. Picture-in-picture, so a video call keeps going while you look something up.
Chats
Photos, videos, voice notes and files. Replies, reactions, pinned messages, read receipts, typing indicators. Set a background for one chat or for all of them.
Moments
Posts, comments and reactions among the people you actually know, plus Moments that disappear after a day — or stay up for a week with Premium — and are kept for you in Memories. Captions and comments are translated too, so a post reaches your whole circle.
For families
Built for a family spread across countries
Hello World was built for a family spread across countries and languages, and the family features are not an afterthought bolted onto a chat app.
- CirclesA circle has a name and a topic: everything goes, or book reading, or whatever brings you together. Members invite people from their own contacts, the admin approves, and everyone sees what everyone posts to it.
- Made for 13 and up, with a guardian until 16Nobody under 13 can open an account, and until 16 a parent or guardian has to look after it before it can be used. The young person accepts the supervision; the guardian can then set what the account is allowed to do. See child safety and parental controls.
For business
A shop that speaks the customer’s language
A small shop can sell to a customer who does not speak its language.
A store inside the chat
List what you sell, with photos, prices and stock. Customers browse and order without leaving the conversation, and the conversation is translated like any other.
Orders and made-to-measure
Take orders, track them, and keep a customer’s measurements on file for the trades that need them — tailoring above all.
Privacy and safety
What we do with your data, said plainly
And what you can do about someone behaving badly.
Your address book stays yours
Finding friends does not upload your contacts. Numbers and addresses are turned into one-way fingerprints on your phone and only those are sent. How each permission is used.
Report and block
Any conversation, post or status can be reported, and anyone can be blocked. How reports are handled.
Delete means delete
You can delete your account from inside the app, and you can delete particular things — voice samples, translation history — without deleting the account. What deletion does.
Translation and speech run on our own servers rather than being handed to an advertising company. What that means in practice, and what is processed where, is set out in translation, voice and AI.
